The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) is seeking highly-motivated and self-directed candidates for a post-doctoral Fellowship in the field of food processing and food safety. The Fellow will serve as a technical resource to GMA members and staff in the areas of thermal food processing, food safety and food microbiology. The Fellow will participate in different projects involving technical services, literature research, data analysis, paper and technical documents preparation, database management, and other related activities.
This is a 12-month full-time role with benefits that will involve working closely with GMA staff and GMA member companies on pressing technical issues. The Fellow:
· Responds to GMA membership assistance requests for technical issues · Assists the Senior Program Manager, Food Processing with processing recommendations requests by classifying, evaluating relevant information sent by member companies, assessing need for additional technical information, and performing processing parameters calculations (thermal processing) such us flow rate, temperature, tube length, and others. · Organizes member database. · Assists with scientific literature research and evaluation. · Assists with the preparation of white papers and peer reviewed publications and presentations. · Researches FDA and USDA regulations and interpretation.
·Ph.D. in food engineering, food microbiology, food science, chemical engineering, agricultural engineering, and/or other related fields ·Training in BPCS is a plus
•Strong background in thermal processing calculations, such us D and z values, temperature calculations, residence times, Reynold numbers, rheological parameters, and heat exchangers processing parameters estimation •Familiarity with FDA and USDA regulations is a plus
•Strong communication skills in written and verbal English •Proficient in Minitab, SAS, or other statistical software •Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
·Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholder expectations
Occasional overnight and international travel may be required.
