The new Online Community Manager role is a fit for an exceptional communicator and relationship builder who is comfortable leveraging technology, believes in the importance of data, knows best practices, is passionate about the value of online communities, and who thrives on the challenge of building and sustaining successful online communities. This role, and the launch of online communities, is pivotal in the transformation of ACOG's digital presence, which is part of our organization's 2020 strategic plan.
Design & Launch. Lead the development and launch of ACOG's private online communities, including defining ACOG's platform requirements and features, identifying community topics and types, creating a launch plan and ensuring successful member and staff engagement.
Develop community-wide communications and engagement strategy. This includes ensuring engagement by working with volunteers and colleagues to seed and spark conversations, recruit participants and provide guidance on how to begin online conversations.
Develop a metrics strategy to regularly track community usage, engagement and success. Follow conversations and learn from ACOG's community and provide insights to help understand member needs. Identify and leverage successful conversations and communities, recognizing top contributors and community champions. Report on community trends to internal teams and advise on potential opportunities or risks.
Strategy and Collaboration. Work with colleagues across ACOG to develop tactical plans to build and support community and member engagement. Collaborate with staff from other departments to ensure the success of individual communities and educate colleagues on best practices for online engagement and community management.
Knowledge Sharing. Work to share best practices and learnings across the organization to drive innovation and collaboration.
Governance and Guidelines. Create and manage moderation, guidelines and governance for the online community platform and enforce when needed. Create member support and staff training resources. Monitor and moderate discussions and flag potential issues and recommend next steps.
Platform Management. Manage and troubleshoot platform upgrades, recommend, plan for and implement ACOG's use of new features of the community platform as appropriate.
Integrated Communications. Collaborate with Marketing and Communications team members to integrate communities into the acog.org website, email, social and other communications vehicles and collaborate on content programming plans.
Act as advocate for the ACOG brand as it relates to communities.
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related field; Masters degree is preferred
Minimum of three to five years of experience developing and growing online communities (forums, discussion groups, social networks)
One to three years of experience with medical or health associations is a plus
Proven understanding of the latest community management and engagement best practices
Strong communications skills, including writing for a variety of channels and platforms
Demonstrated technical aptitude and a working knowledge of HTML
Experience using data in community-related decision making and demonstrated understanding of tracking and metrics
Understanding of marketing automation as it relates to communities
A team player who excels at connecting and working collaboratively with members and colleagues
Knowledge of Higher Logic community platform a plus
