The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) is the trade organization representing the world’s leading food, beverage and consumer products companies and associated partners. Founded in 1908, GMA has a primary focus on product safety, science-based public policies and industry initiatives that seek to empower people with the tools and information they need to make informed choices and lead healthier lives. The GMA Science and Education Foundation (GMA-SEF) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit that provides significant and meaningful scientific and educational contributions to the food and consumer products industry. The mission of the foundation is to deliver innovative research, state-of-the art training and best-in-class education programs to the food industry and consumers, and thereby contributes to the delivery of high quality, safe food and consumer products.
We are currently seeking candidates for a Fellowship at the GMA-SEF. This is a 2-year Fellowship Program designed for early career professionals with a Master’s or Ph.D. in food science, food engineering or microbiology or related field with a well-articulated interest in food safety education, training, policy, nutrition, labeling, and ingredient safety.
The GMA-SEF Fellow will be engaged in activities such as these:
Develop and implement food safety training programs.
Assist in development of a research agenda and related programs for the foundation.
Work within a division of GMA for a 3-month rotation in one of the following areas: policy, nutrition, ingredient safety and labeling.
Participate in a variety of forums representing the GMA SEF.
The best candidates for this position:
Hold an advanced degree (PhD preferred) in food science, food chemistry, microbiology, engineering, or related field.
Have strong communication skills, including excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
Ability to manage time effectively, work independently and under minimal supervision.
